First and foremost... I AM NOT PREGNANT!
It seems that the cliff hanger on the last post freaked some people out! To set the record straight, there is NO bun in the oven. Helloooo, I have a wedding dress to fit into in less than two months! Not to mention boatloads of champagne to drink while wearing said dress ;)
Our big announcement DOES involve increasing the size of our little family, but with a puppy instead of a baby! :)
Everybody - meet Lou!
This handsome little man is the newest member of the Beard family. A few fun facts:
He is 100% black lab.
He's almost 10 weeks old (on Tuesday) and weighs about 12 lbs.
He LOVES to snuggle!
After his first weekend at home with us he is already starting to recognize his name, hasn't had an accident has only had one two accidents in the house, and seems to love to curl up in his crate at night. His siblings, the gray babies, are actually doing very well adapting to their new brother. They are still pretty stand offish, but mostly just curious! We are beyond excited to be new pet parents and although we missed out on A LOT of sleep this weekend, we're having so much fun :)
Anywayyy... A little while ago I mentioned that we were in the process of making a HUGE decision regarding Mike's career. When he originally enlisted in the Marine Corps. he signed a five year contract. By the time we started our relationship, he was only a few months into it so we knew, for the foreseeable future, what he would be doing and we had a decent idea of where he would be stationed as well. Since then, time has absolutely flown by as we made our way through two deployments, a million trips back and forth to Colorado, and getting married! Then all of a sudden, the end of his original contract seemed to be staring us straight in the face and we had no idea what we were going to do next!

There were four different options for us to decide between and each of them had their own set of pro's and con's. We played a little "game" where one of us would ask the other, "So babe, what are you leaning towards today?" and that went on every day for probably 2 months. There were weeks where the answer stayed the same, and times when it would change from morning to evening. We truly had NO clue what we were going to do, or really even what we wanted most.
That all changed basically over night when the majority of Mike's platoon returned from a training exercise in Texas. A new option was then presented to him and it turned out to be not only a smart career move, but also the thing Mike really wanted to do the most! So the winning option is...
Mike is going to extend his current contract for another year! This means one more year in Jacksonville, the opportunity to finish up the last few weeks of sniper school in the fall, and one more deployment with 2/8 early next year.
Of course, I'm not thrilled about the idea of a deployment, but it will most likely be a noncombat deployment somewhere other than the Middle East. If he has to go, then that's probably the best scenario! As for another year in Jacksonville... Eh. Is it my number one dream destination? Not even close. But we have made some really wonderful friends here, we are amazingly close to the beach, and I am familiar enough with the area to feel comfortable by myself while Mike is away.
We did not come to this decision lightly by any means and in the end, it comes down to the three questions (originally mentioned here)...
1. What is best for Mike's career?
2. What is the best for our family?
Ok so actually only two of the three really apply here... But after months of debating this is truly what is going to be best for both Mike's career and for our family!
Next on the agenda... Figuring out what the eff to do with a puppy in the house! And putting the final preparation on the wedding plans! Eeeeeek! Can't believe we're getting so close! :)
