So I guess I'm old enough to have a college graduate for a sister... Who knew?! Lucky for me, she decided to go to school in Hawaii giving my family an unlimited amount of excuses to vacation I mean, visit her ;)
Hello, beautiful! |
I was fortunate enough to use one of those excuses to fly down to Oahu for a week and watch her get her diploma! The only unfortunate part of the entire trip is the 15 hours of plane time I had to put in to get there. YIKES. A big shout out to Pinterest for giving me the idea to put shooters in my quart sized bag. My free Bloody Marys definitely softened the blow of the 7.5 hour flight from Phoenix to Honolulu. They were even worth the super
judge-y looks I got every time I pulled alcohol out of my backpack. Not my fault you didn't think of it! ;)
Could I look any paler standing next to her? |
While I was in Hawaii I stayed at the Hale Koa Hotel which is a fabulous military hotel right on the beach at the very end of the Waikiki strip. Ocean views, cheap drinks, and a little mini exchange right by the lobby.. What more could a girl want? Military friends - if you're thinking of taking a trip to Oahu I would HIGHLY recommend staying there!
The gorgeous grad! |
I flew in on Wednesday and stayed for an entire week and although I didn't get quite as tan as I would've hoped, I had such a great time! Before I moved to North Carolina I had never lived more than an hour away from home so being 1,800 miles away from my family was a HUGE adjustment. Now that I've been here for a little over 8 months I'm more used to the distance but I'd be lying if I said I never got homesick! So that's why I'm more than happy to jump on any opportunity to see my family, especially if a trip to Hawaii is included! By the time the week was over I was definitely happy to get back to my little family in J-ville. Two solo vacations in 4 weeks is tough on me and the hubs! We were very happy to get back to our normal routine filled with lots of snuggles and gray babies all up in our business :)
I am one proud (and still pale) sister! |
Next up on the agenda: Mike's re-enlistment. In the next couple of weeks Mike will start all the necessary paperwork for his re-enlistment and we will have to make the decision of where we want to go! (At least where we will request to go... We won't know for sure until we're loading the moving van!) He has a couple of really great options so the pro-con list situation is out of control in the Beard house right now!
What it really comes down to is:
1. What is best for Mike's career?
2. What is the best for our family?
3. Where do we want to spend the next 3 + years of our life?!
Yikes. Biiiiiiig stuff coming up soon for the Beards! I have no clue when the decision will be finalized, but when I know, you'll know ;)
Until then it's business as usual! Binge watching Netflix series (we're currently addicted to Lost), hunting down some fresh seafood that isn't too pricey (scallops, we're comin' for ya!), and taking as many trips to the beach as we possibly can :)
Babe, could you quit driving for a second so I could take a selfie? ;) |
