Is it bad that I haven't even thought about this blog in weeks? We have been so unbelievably busy and so much has been happening that it literally didn't even cross my mind until about 5 minutes ago. The word slacker comes to mind...
Anyway, to give you an idea of what's been happening in our hectic lives...
Mike wound up with strep throat and was pretty much knocked on his a** for a week. Poor hubby :( He NEVER gets sick so this took us totally by surprise and being on bed rest (wifey's orders!) was absolute torture for him. Lots of hot tea, chicken soup, and snuggles filled the Beard household that week so I can't really complain :)
Good thing gray babies are such good snugglers ;) |
Shortly after that, Mike's dad and his wife came to visit us for the weekend! We hadn't seen them since Thanksgiving LAST year and since Mike is fresh off a deployment it was the perfect time to have some family in our new little house :) Unfortunately I didn't manage to get a picture of us all (did someone say... slacker?) but regardless, we had a wonderful time!
The week after that FLEW by because we were preparing ourselves for the 238th Marine Corps Ball. We carpooled down to Myrtle Beach with our friends the Knapps and as soon as we checked into the hotel we turned right back around and left to go to Medieval Times. I would be lying if I said I was completely prepared for this experience... You pull up to this gigantic castle and as soon as you walk inside it's like a time warp back to, well, medieval times (ha ha). We had front row seats and gigantic beers and spent the evening cheering on our knight and making fart noises/booing the opposing night. Ridiculous is pretty much the only word that comes to mind.
Check out that cutie ;) |
Selfies in the cab! Love this girl :) |
And so it begins... |
Lord and Lady Beard! Could that beer be any bigger? |
The next day was the ball and we woke up reeeeeally late due to a long night and probably a few too many mugs of Coors, but we went to breakfast at a place called The Olympic Flame and completely stuffed our faces. On the way back to the car Mike had the bright idea to ride the slingshot (in the pouring rain might I add) and for some reason I agreed. So we finally got back to the hotel, soaking wet, with just enough time for a quick nap before getting ready for the main event!
I got ready with my girlfriends Amy and Kassie while the guys watched football and about 2 and a half hours later we were all set to go! Now, the ball itself isn't much of a party. You have assigned seats, you watch a video, there are about a million speeches, and then dinner is served. Once dinner is over, that's when the fun starts :) We didn't stay at the ball for too long after we ate, instead we changed out of our formal wear and hopped on a free shuttle over to Broadway at the Beach. Our first stop? Senor Frogs of course! After a few hours of karaoke, dancing, and all around craziness, we parted ways with some of our friends and went to a different bar with slot machines and more karaoke! It was crazy. It was wild. It was maybe a little TOO much fun ;) The next morning was a bit of a struggle.. But we eventually checked out, found the Knapps, drove through McDonalds, and made our way back to Jacksonville. WOW.
Daaaaang girl ;) |
Cheesy picture with the flags of course! |
But really though, he is my favorite :) |
So after all of that madness, came Thanksgiving. Originally it was going to be just me and Mike having a small dinner together but about two days before Thanksgiving our plans basically exploded and somehow we ended up with about 10 other people joining us for a small feast! So even though I was freaking out a little completely (helloooo I've never cooked a turkey before, let alone TWO turkeys at once...) it went off without a hitch and we had an amazing day surrounded by wonderful friends!
Oh.. And feel free to check out this gorgeous cheesecake I made... Pumpkin of course! I'm obsessed.
GET IN MY BELLY! |
This is getting really long (again) so I'll just say that we have so much to be thankful for and SO much to look forward to just in the next month! I'm thankful beyond words that Mike made it home safely from Afghanistan for a second time, that we are finally able to live together and start our life, and that he's home just in time for us to spend the holidays as a new little family :) I could literally go on forever with my "thankful for" list, but I'll just leave it at that!
Have I mentioned..? I'm head over heels for this guy ;) |
Next up... Our Christmas tree, prepping our little house for the most WONDERFUL time of the year, and a Christmas cruise! Stay tuned :)
