Addison Grace - One Month

Well, time certainly flies when you have a newborn!

Her BFF Lou is always by her side :)
Part of me is in total disbelief that my sweet Addison is already a month old, while the other part feels like she's been here all along and struggles to remember what life was like before she arrived. Funny how that works :)

I know there's been a serious lack of updates regarding our newest addition and I apologize for that! Mike and I have really been focusing on getting to know our girl and settling into our new family life and that honestly took priority over everything else. Of course, we're still getting to know Addie (she changes so much every day!) and we're still figuring things out, but he's been back at work for a couple of weeks and I feel like I sort of have a handle on the 'mom' thing.. At least some days I do ;)

Likes - Eating, being swaddled, snuggling, looking out the windows when it's sunny, being outside, taking baths, holding her head up & checking out the world!

Dislikes - Diaper changes, the carseat, getting out of the bath, & having her feet tickled.

The pediatrician on base doesn't do a one month well visit, so we don't know her exact height and weight at the moment. She had a weight check last Wednesday (more on that later) and she weighed 8 pounds 2.5 ounces, but I'm sure she's much closer to 9 pounds by now with how much she's been eating! She's also starting to outgrow her newborn sized clothes and filling out her 0-3 month stuff, cue the tears from mom! ;)

I spy the beginnings of some thigh rolls... My very favorite!!
As far as newborns go, Addison is definitely one of the easier going ones. She's not terribly fussy unless she's hungry, and she's a great sleeper! I've heard that sometimes newborns mix up their days and nights, meaning they sleep all day and want to party all night. Lucky for us, Addie is not one of those babies. She's awake and ready to go for most of the day, which can make it a little hard to get stuff done around the house, but then she sleeps SO well at night. She usually goes down for good around 11 and will sleep until about 8 in the morning. I'm still waking up to feed her every three hours, but overnight she's really just a dream feeder, which makes it way easier for me to get good sleep in between feeds. Of course we still have nights (last night for example...) where sleep just doesn't happen. Nights like those make me extremely thankful that we buy coffee in bulk!

So going back to that mention of a weight check.. Things were a little crazy after we were discharged from the hospital. Addison was a little jaundiced after she was born, so we had to make some extra visits to the pediatrician starting the day after we went home to monitor her bilirubin levels. Thankfully, it was just a mild case and she was given the all clear after about a week with no need for any light therapy! Unfortunately, my milk took a little longer than expected to come in and that combined with the jaundice gave Addie a bit of a slow start on weight gain. She is perfectly healthy and she IS gaining back what she lost after birth, it just took her a little extra time in the beginning which meant even more visits to the doctor to track her growth. Our most recent weight check was last Wednesday, and she had finally gained enough weight to make the doctors happy, so we were given the all clear and don't have to go back to the office until her 2 month well visit!

In other news, Mike doesn't know how to not be busy, so he's at a school right now! He's absolutely loving it though, and he's been working pretty typical 9-5 type hours which is a very welcome change for us! He finishes up at the very end of the month and then will pretty much be free the month of July, so we're looking forward to getting in all the time we can as a family before he heads into some really important training mid-August. July is also when we're going to try and squeeze in some visits from family members who haven't had a chance to meet miss Addison yet, so it's gonna be a fun month!

Melts my heart! She just adores her daddy :)

Up next on the blog: I plan to share the products that have made our lives easier during our first month with miss Addison. I always love getting the inside scoop from other moms who have been in my shoes, so I figured I'd throw in my two cents as well!
