Today Lou and I had the opportunity to participate in an event at New River Air Station called the "Puppy Plunge". Basically, it was a pool day for pups! It was held at the outdoor family pool at the Officer's Club and they really went all out! There were lifeguards on duty, tons of tennis balls to play with, and treats galore!
Lou has only been in the ocean a handful of times and aside from being hosed down in the backyard, that's as far as his experience with water goes. I was a little unsure of how he would do in the pool, especially with the excitement of a bunch of other dogs around him, but he jumped right in and was a complete natural! I guess it's a lab thing! ;)
They held a few contests like "coolest trick" or "best dressed" but we were totally focused on pool fetch. Lou took it upon himself to try to collect every single ball in the pool which didn't really work out, but he had a great time anyway :)
It was a two hour event but we showed up a little late because someone (me) packed up a whole back of stuff only to forget the harness and leash... Yeah. But an hour and a half was plenty of time to wear out my sweet pup and I am so glad we went!
I try to make sure that we keep Lou as active as possible with lots of walks, going to the dog park, and the occasional game of fetch in the soccer field down the street, but it's always nice to do something a little different! Plus any activity that results in this:
...is a perfect one in my book :)
